    One thing that Americans prize is their mobility. Many retire in places they didn't live (e.g. the south, or southwest); many are going far, far from their home turf for jobs and family reasons. When you leave the state you are used to, and find out that in another state your rights are not actually protected by the federal constitution.....people get cranky.

    In N. Carolina I have seen this: there is a large influx of population from other places (south of the US border, and north of the Mason-Dixon line). It's a matter of time. Or at least I like to think so.
