The number of Israelis dead from terrorist attacks dramatically decreased after the Wall was built and de facto separation of Israelis from Palestinians occurred.  The Israelis see such separation as self-defense, not reciprocation for past wrongs.
That's the ostensible reason for the building of the Wall by Israel but it doesn't reflect what actually happened. After the second intifada, terrorism attacks decreased from both the west bank and Gaza. In fact, Hamas decided to unilaterally end suicide attacks in 2006. The wall was nowhere near complete when it happened and for many years West Bank Palestinians entered Israel through the holes to work illegally within the Green Line. There could have been suicide attacks at any of those times but it did not happen. Instead, what continued was a process not to ensure Israeli security but to grab more land from Palestinians. That, and the continued violence from Israel upon Palestinians continued unabated.
I'm troubled by the Palestinian term "Occupation", because it implies that the existence of a Jewish person in Palestine / Israel is unacceptable.
The occupation was called that by Ariel Sharon himself, who ended the use of the euphemism 'disputed territories'. And it makes me incredibly angry when someone uses this particular talking point implying anti-semitism when what is really happening is theft of Palestinian land and occupation of Palestinian people. Check out some B'tselem reports here about how Israel takes land for its use in the West Bank. It's theft and I'm disturbed that anyone would call objection to theft anti-semitic.
