    is that it's immoral for policy holders who pay premiums to an insurer to expect the contractually-set benefits to be paid in return; but that is not immoral for the parent company of the insurer to make off with the assets and leave their policy holders holding worthless policies.

    There is a term for savvy busineessmen who think like this: criminals. And there is even a place for them too: prison.
