    Their cost per kilowatt couldn't compete against an artificial price cut which threw the entire cost structure and R.O.I. to heck.

      Young industries have shake-outs where some technologies go extinct, sometimes because there's new great technology and sometimes because commodity pricing kicks in.  And here it was commodity pricing plus subsidies.
