    You write:

And to top it all off, this crowd is very secular, and heavily atheist, for that matter.
I have to wonder where you get this idea from and why it is relevant to your greater point. Everything else you write is supported by browsing Wired, Ars Technica, The Verge and other places. None of the tech websites seem to spend too much time dealing with God and Religion.

In the meantime I work for a religious community PACKED with scientists and mathematicians who are progressive. I know that my experience is not statistically significant but such a comment makes those who are religious and progressive (in part because of our interpretation of religion) feel a little less welcome in the progressive world.

If you believe that ALL criticism of Israel is antisemitic, you're an idiot.
If you believe that NONE of the criticism of Israel is antisemitic, you're a fool.
If you call EVERYONE who criticizes Israel antisemitic, you're just an a$$hole

I have very good relations with atheists and agnostics here. I maintain that the God they don't believe in, typically the God of the Evangelical Christians, obviously does not exist, and that we are looking not for a God to believe in, not a vengeful, patriarchal Creator and Smiter-in-Chief God but a God to love who moves us to do the right thing, sometimes even without our knowledge. But I don't insist.

I like your sig. I have been in the middle of some of the more contentious I/P diary donut and pie fights in the past. I am happy to say that the I/P purity trolls have succeeded in getting themselves banned, and that we are having some real discussions on the subject now. After all, what we say here is nothing to what some of the prophets said about Israel long ago. Notably Amos: "They have sold the righteous for silver, and the poor for a pair of shoes; that pant after the dust of the Earth on the heads of the poor".
