    •  In fairness to (5+ / 0-)

Barack Obama, he never really claimed to be nor did his record demonstrate him to be such a person - a strong progressive with a "kill" instinct.  He was a moderate centrist who preferred compromise and negotiation.  He has not changed.

If he can't do that, he should go home.

centrist politician.  Who are  his enemies?  Who does he represent?  I don't think people are being fair to him because he is exactly what he has always been, what we knew him to be and what we can reasonably expect from two capitalist parties.

          •  Depends how you define capitalist, I guess. (0+ / 0-)

A capitalist should know that the sequester is a bad thing for the economy and he should do everything he can to avoid it, including risking a SCOTUS battle over constitutional remedies.

At the very least, he should target his political enemies with the cuts, especially since the red states take more than they give and are therefore less important to the overall economy anyway.

the hysteria that FNC would generate in its loyal following of sheople if the Villagers in the GOP were considered enemies (for simply wanting to arm domestic terrorists with assault weapons!)

into running mode, although he is slowing somewhat and may actually turn around and coldcock the wingers or may keep running and herding them toward the cliff of extinction before they can screech to a collective stop.

to stay "inside the box".  There is a remarkable amount of constipated thinking - he is very much dedicated to the norms of convention, maybe solve problems but very much within the existing paradigms.  That has been the disappointment.  Also from his rhetoric (and how little he challenges convention) he doesn't seem to think Americans are very smart.

        ....except the last point.

I think he gives Americans too much credit for being smart and sensible.

        •  i wish i could agree, but if he thought Americans (3+ / 0-)

were smart, then explaining the truth about the economy would be easy.  That the housing crash made people poorer, and that businesses cannot produce goods without customers, and that government can fill that gap.  This is a very reasonable story that smart sensible people understand, and are living.  But his story falls into old deficit wives tales, trying to appease the David Brooks of the world.  That is not assuming a smart electorate since a smart electorate can understand a different message.

shows the American public to be incredibly ignorant on issues like the budget and the sequester.

live.  But that is where someone who has the media's ear ... could deliver a message.  But if you are a slave to polls and not one's own rhetorical ability - sigh.  Even more basically - this stuff being tried now has been a colossal failure in Europe - and some of that is in the real news.  But as long as there is no voice to these facts (heaven forbid the white house offer it) we are left with two awful choices.

          •  Nonsense! (0+ / 0-)

If you'd bothered to listen to him you'd realize that is exactly what he has been saying. Go to the White House video collection and watch his statements.

You are exactly like the Republicans in Ezra Kleins recent article who complain endlessly about Pres Obama on issues that he has definitively addressed. They NEVER listen to a thing he says! That's you too!
