  •  We shall see. Jodi Arias' attorney is trying for (0+ / 0-)

a battered woman defense, where she saw herself as genuinely threatened with death or great bodily harm by the guy she shot with a gun he didn't own apparently, and stabbed him a whole lotta times, after coming across state lines to do it. There is no other point than some sort of post traumatic or other stressor in putting in all of the decedent's alleged sexual hijinks as the defense to his slaying.

    •  So is their defense (0+ / 0-)

that she has PTSD from being beaten, and that caused her to perceive a threat where none existed?  I know next to nothing about the case.

If so, good luck proving that in court.  The reason the insanity defense is rarely successful is that the legal definition of "insanity" is that the defendant is unable to distinguish right from wrong.  Or at least that they were unable to at the time.  I don't see how they'd be able to prove that that's where her state of mind was at the time, unless that's where her state of mind is now.

And don't forget, the latter has to be determined by psychiatrists.  And faking such things is harder than pop culture would have you believe.
