    Many doctors who diagnose cancer are very poor at communicating that diagnosis.  So you just had a doctor tell you, inartfully, that you have terminal cancer and you're going to die...well, you need hope, right?  Even if it's false and unrealistic.

    My favorite line, "No one has an expiration date..." is practically gorunds for malpractice.  If a person has a restricted amount of time to get their family affairs in order, by all means, they need to know that information.  Withholding it doesn't prolong life.
