Placing this comment here was a mistake...meant to place it at the bottom of the next thread. My apologies!

    •  This (9+ / 0-)

would make a great diary.  A few excerpts from these stories are so very scary.

    •  Bob, there's nothing wrong (or against the rules) (11+ / 0-)

with replying to a diarist's "Tip Jar." That's the way it's set up now. If the diarist doesn't want a reply, he or she just allows the all-powerful dkos comment/tip jar-maker-machine-thingy post one for them that doesn't have the capacity to allow the reader/would-be-replier to... well... reply.

That's been a popular misconception around here for years. And frankly, it annoys da hell outta me when I reply to the diarist's first comment and someone tells me "Hey, you jumped teh Tip Jar!"

The rules dictate that if the diarist seeks a reply, they post their first comment themselves, and it then ceases to be a "Tip Jar." Instead, it just becomes the normal first comment of the diary.

In other words, since the rule change, there is no such thing as "Jumping the Tip Jar."

      So, reply away!

      Just FYI.

(now, if you already knew all that, and really misplaced the comment or if you were replying to someone else... I'll feel just a little bit embarrassed)

      lol

      •  Well... (5+ / 0-)

...I was not aware of the additional details about the rules regarding replying to the tip jar, and/or the first comment. So you just taught me something. Thank you!

That being said, I did make a mistake by placing the original comment where I did (per my "My bad" comment below it, above). But, it's quite nice of you to take the time that you just did to comment accordingly. Thanks AGAIN!

You know, I really don't know how that misconception was spread so far and wide around here.

Don't feel bad though, apparently, a whole lotta people 'round here either didn't get the memo -- or they got it -- didn't bother to read it, and then just decided to crumple it up and throw it in the trash. lol

Back when replying to the "Tip Jar" was technically possible, people used to complain (myself among them) about a commentator garden variety mojo whore being able to jump everybody else's comments hours after the diary was published. Finally, kos had enough of the whining and changed the format to what it is now.

It's just not technically possible anymore. So, if someone complains about you Jumping the Tip Jar replying to diarist's first comment after the fact; just tell 'em to get their head outta their ass.

(of course, feel free to serve up your own -- perhaps a little less acerbic -- literary admonishment to your fellow kossacks. LOL)

          Write on!
