    •  They're pushing mighty hard, but the (7+ / 0-)

millions of people turning out in the streets of various countries and the left win in France are signs that people are fighting back (as much as they are permitted to fight back).

At least in Europe, you generally have the choice of a party and candidate which is not totally owned by the Landlords.   Look at our two parties behavior. We don't even get a left candidate to vote for - that's not permitted.

      •  You also have Parliamentary systems (7+ / 0-)

        in most of those countries.

The way those systems work makes it incredibly difficult for extremists to gain power.

In the US it is all too easy because of the inertia in the Senate elections, and the partisan nature of districting.

With an impartial boundary commission we would currently have a Democratic House, Senate and President.

I hope that the quality of debate will improve,
but I fear we will remain Democrats.

      •  That is the weakness of a two party system. (4+ / 0-)

Particularly when it costs so much to run for office.

But as has happened time and again, eventually (Elizabeth Warren?) someone will change the entire paradigm of the national direction, the last one to do so was Reagan, prior to that FDR, Teddy, Lincoln.

It's about time the pendulum swings again.

Those who would sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither.
