    Air traffic controllers require 3 years experience to do their jobs at big busy airports. Another factor is that nationwide, 368 out of 1283 fully qualified controllers (27%) will be eligible to retire on January 1, 2014. What if all those eligible to retire then were to do so? Hmmm, there would be a big problem, even with a 20% fewer workhour workload (from cuts to service), and even with all the remaining controllers working full-time, there would have to be further service cuts for at least 2 years.
