  •  We camped in the Swell years ago. (6+ / 0-)

Couldn't say where we were, exactly -- the river was very close, though. Above the area where we were was a mountain that went up probably 10 stories, and near the top of this mostly dark mountain is a white door--looking formation -- really, literally looks like a door. There was no way to get up to it to check it out -- sheer drop from the top. It's quite weird. Your reference to aliens makes me wonder...Has anyone else seen this or know anything about it? Thank you for doing this series, Rich -- reading it seems like going on lots of mini-vacations!

    •  We spent a lot of time on that white block (5+ / 0-)

didn't we? I still would like to get up there as see it up close. IIRC, we were up Buckhorn Wash by the Swinging Bridge.

      Remember the dino foot print?

Coelophysis or a close relative, do you think? Lots of these 3-toed dinos ranged throughout Utah and parts of Arizona, and New Mexico. They were about 1-ton on average, and judging from the size of the track, well, the shoe print (sneaker?) at the 5 o'clock mark, it appears to be coelophysis. Next time you come across tracks remember to put something of a known value, say, a pen or a silver dollar (do you remember those pieces of silver, do you?) and that always helps measure the size. Anyway, the White Block sedimentary rock is highlighted with lots of tracks, as I recall, high uintas.

by people who hang in the Swell, you have to know where it is and the bigger rocks there cover it until you remove them. We poured water in it to high light it and at the last minute I stuck my foot out to make that print.

Most of my best pics of teh swell are actual hard copy pictures, we were talking about going back down there to get some newer and different ones. I'm not a dinosaur expert so I have no idea which one it is, but they are common down there and all through the area.

SuWho, and if you're asking is there anyone else who knows of such strange stuff going on in that part of Utah, similar to Broom Lake's Area 51. . .geesh, there's a mess of that stuff on the web. Trouble is you have to dig deeper below the hyperbole and bullshit of the truly fanciful stuff and search for case studies of folks who used to work for the likes of the DOE, and chemical industry types who created recipes for a highly potent and carcinogenic fuel source for fueling tomorrow's aircraft (which are already here today). If you take a group, say, that is serious about the Denver International Airport (DIA) being some sort of secret military establishment beneath its sprawling location, well, you get all sorts of weird reports, including people amassed and ready to tell you President Obama is the secret head of the New World Order (NWO) movement. What I'm talking about is the kind of reports that have seen strange aircraft objects appearing to the west of the Swell, along with sounds, and similar other activities in a region that strangely gets no protection from the government, as though to say or suggest.  . .Area 51 is simply too well known and some would another Area, call it 52, is better. And funny you should mention the 'door,' because I knew a hiking buddy who once mentioned something similar, and it is just too coincidental both of you weren't seeing the same thing. Let's put it out there to community and see if someone else might have an answer. I surely don't. (For the record, and regarding aliens from another world. . .isn't it strange that to date no other DNA has been found on the planet, human like, that is anything but a double helix? How about this: the human hand is arguably the most adaptive tool due to the thumb and how it works. Whenever we see alien type of movies, especially strange sorts flying strange objects (what some call UFO's) . . . the are missing this important digit, if not one or two others. Ergo, I am apt to believe in aliens of that sort if they have similar hands, binocular vision, and bipedal. Otherwise, some people may be mistaken select politicians as such strange creatures from another world (i.e., the planet "Money").

Am glad Uintas remembers where we saw that weird door-rock. I enjoy conspiracy theories for entertainment value, although there are certainly weird things out there. As you mention, especially alien politicians!
