By election day, there were still a ton of GOTV targets who hadn't been contacted yet. You're really better off just signing up for OFA and getting a list from them.

So what? There are very few split ticket voters. If you were in a state where OFA was active, you'd turn out more Democratic house voters than blind knocks.

If you weren't, then the DCCC and the DSCC both had targeting operations and you should still be getting lists from your local field office.

        •  Actually, a lot of what OFA does is blind knocks (2+ / 0-)

I live near the UW Madison campus, and blind knocking is way more effective than targetting, simply because in wards where voters are extremely transient, it's very hard to build effective lists. The fact that renters and young people tend to be Democrats means that rental housing near a campus will always be strongly Democratic, regardless of who lives there. I don't want to not knock on a door because the last time it was canvassed in 2010, or (even in the 2012 recall) a Republican or a non-voter lived there, because the odds are good that a Democrat lives there now.

several months before the election. When we did GOTV at my staging location we contacted the high priority targets two or three times during the 4-day GOTV period until they voted.
