  •  History is the past. That was then this is now. (0+ / 0-)

The events of the 20th century realigned the political parties such that race voters are in the GOP or a third party wacko fringe.  The "Reagan Democrats" never came back, they are GOP through and through, today's Democrats are different.

We've had enough influx of Hispanic and minorities into just about every corner  of "Blue" America and we're not seeing any evidence of new political realignments based upon the waves of the 21st century.

Those folks uncomfortable with influxes of minorities to the extent they would say chose their mayor or congressman on those issues are already part of the GOP tribe.

    •  How did you feel (0+ / 0-)

About the great race wars and the purge of a year ago on Daily Kos?

I'd say racism is alive and well among those who call themselves liberal and Democratic.

      •  Racism can be alive but not drive to the GOP (0+ / 0-)

I avoid meta diaries and have avoided most of the great dust ups here on Daily Kos.  I have better things to do with my time.  Racism most certainly exists even within the progressive movement but that doesn't stop racists from deciding to vote on issues other then how they feel about minorities.

      indubitably

in the 1970s, that after the Civil Rights Act all the race voters went to the GOP.

You still provide no evidence for your assertions.

As for history, I'll go ahead and quote Faulkner:

"The past isn't dead. It isn't even past."

I'm so stealing that Faulkner quote.

      •  The GOP has been beating the drum since Goldwater (0+ / 0-)

That is my evidence.  The GOP has been signing the racist siren song for so long that folks who would be tempted by  are already in their camp.

The professor's editorial provided no evidence that immigration reform and the recent wave of Hispanic immigrants is powerful enough to change existing liberal voters into GOP voters.  Voters who would reject a candidate on the basis of immigrant reform support were never liberal voters in the first place.

Lovely Faulkner quote.  Doesn't change my mind nor negate my BA in history bub.

          Be Skeptical

Again, the point is that the changing demographics might--might!--change peoples' views on these issues to the extent that they might get lured to the (new, rebranded, less outwardly crazy) GOP. The author might be wrong about that, but at least he gave evidence for his view; you have yet to give me anything but your own opinion.
