      been infected with the virus (quite possible), and the virus would then have had to been integrated into their genomes in an identical manner (virtually if not totally impossible!).

      Even though 8% (a lot!!) of the human genome is viral in origin, these viruses were incorporated over the course of hundreds of millions of years in our ancestors.  Overall, it's a slow and uncertain process.
