    read the whole diary again and I have a sick stomach. It's just
    beyond belief.

    I don't understand what this is referring to or what it means (bold text):

    BP won a key victory early when Barbier ruled that the oil company should not have to pay damages on oil recovered from the oil site. That automatically reduces BP’s exposure by about $3.5 billion.
    Is this saying that BP has no responsibility for the clean up? I
    am very tired right now and it may be making me stupid.

      I'm guessing that whatever "damages" are assessed on the total amount of the spill can not include recovered oil.
