This is one of the best diaries I have read in a long time.  I wish we had more teachers and writers like you who would connect the pursuit of political power with what we win. When panic and fear be it of the Republican maniac's or this Orwellian endless war with an amorphous enemy that can be anyone anywhere we need more writers and teachers like you. What good are partisan politics and winning if what we win is the destruction of our Law's and the hard one rights, civil and human that people have always struggled for.

When I first came to dkos I was moved to read Tom Paine's Common Sense. I'm rereading as I'm reevaluating how within our useless electoral process and the broken system of government, all branches, citizens can change the direction back to the Rule of Law. Thank you for addressing the heart of the matter. Katrina vanden Heuvel is another voice I appreciate. This is not what democracy looks like.

    Where's my habeas corpus?
