  •  They should not have brought thier kids.... (11+ / 0-)

It was hard for me to watch the video the first time, and I think for the first time the WHOLE video has been presented to the western world without commentary or narrative.

The part where the pilot shoots the truck was the most horrid act I have ever seen in my life...and the most horrid words I have ever seen in my life was 'they shouldn't have brought thier kids to the war'.

Even right now, I am shaking from the anger I feel, and the wanting to cry that I am part of this humanity that can be so cruel to each other.  I feel bad, and helpless, and angry all the same time.

I feel hope too, that there are people like this man who joins the risk takers who have changed the course of so much with thier seemingly small acts of defiance.

I think of the Black woman who sat in a seat on a bus, and started the discussion that lead to Americans becoming more equal in thier society.

...or the German who lied that he was hiding a Jewish family in his house...or those who marched against inhumanity, or spoke out against oppression. seemed such a little thing, but it made us look at ourselves...those of us who still feel something when they see things like this video...and want to cry for our selves as part of this humanity.

To me...I dont know this man, and I am sure he understood his fate...but he did the right thing for the sake that it was right, even if he is not a hero but to anyone but me.

I wish I was half of the bravery that fills his mother's teardrop.

A flower that blooms in adversity is rare, and a symbol of hope for the oppressed.

    •  What so many people - critics of this (9+ / 0-)

whistleblowing -- don't seem to get is that the general population was simply trying to live their normal lives.

They didn't know a death machine helicopter from above was about to slaughter them.  You have a photographer trying to get photos where there might be shooting. You have regular shopkeepers and people in the area. You have a guy in a van with his kids, traveling somewhere.

None of these people knew the US military was about to blow them to bits, literally.  And then to joke about what they were doing?  We sent a bunch of people into Iraq with a very poor attitude toward the people they were supposed to be "saving" from Saddam.  And they demonstrate that quite well on the video in their own words.

the most horrid words I have ever seen in my life was 'they shouldn't have brought their kids to the war'.
Iraq is their country.  Americans are invaders. No other way around it.  Their kids live there.  This wasn't a battlefield of two arrayed armies ready to slug it out.  It was an urban neighborhood with all sorts of people present.

How is that hard to understand?  The murdered men, women and children live there.

"The law is meant to be my servant and not my master, still less my torturer and my murderer." -- James Baldwin. July 11, 1966.
