  •  Fact. (12+ / 0-)

One you might be willing to overlook, but it is a fact.

People who aren't homophobic don't say shit like this:

Let’s not be naive, we’re not talking about a simple political battle; it is a destructive pretension against the plan of God. We are not talking about a mere bill, but rather a machination of the Father of Lies that seeks to confuse and deceive the children of God.”
People who aren't homophobic don't say that the LGBT equality movement is "demonic in origin".

People who aren't homophobic don't say that letting gay people adopt children is somehow a form of discrimination against the children.

That's all homophobic. That is bigotry. You might want to ignore it, but those of us who are the targets of that hatred are less willing to overlook it.

I know the source is bad, but if the new pope said this...ugh.

New Pope Francis I is a conservative in the mold of his predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI and Pope John Paul II. That’s especially true on the issue of abortion, which he called a “death sentence” for the unborn in 2007. “We aren’t in agreement with the death penalty,” he said during that speech, “but in Argentina we have the death penalty. A child conceived by the rape of a mentally ill or retarded woman can be condemned to death.”
    •  Indeed, this *could* have been one of (0+ / 0-)

those cases if you don't have anything non-hateful to say on the topic, just don't say anything!

All the Catholics I know are like this on this topic - some openly disagree with the Church's position and most don't say anything.  I assume they might agree with the hate but are prescient not to bring it up in public - and if they don't want to discuss it that's fine with me - I won't bring it up.

But if they did - like this guy did!! - I wouldn't be shy about speaking my mind.
