  •  I have several peers that I grew up with who are (12+ / 0-)

Adopted. My dearest friends, their parents have huge lhearts big enough not only for them, but to treat me like a daughter too, all these decades.

I have other friends, gay and straight, with adopted children from third-world countries and the USA, abled and disabled.

This statement offends me at my core. I wish these people would just keep their hateful world views to themselves.

And on the other hand, I wish the  haters don't shut up. Chief Justice Roberts may try mightily to ignore this stuff. But the RWNJs keep attacking him personally'on everything from his Obamacare decision  to his family. Roberts has a bright capable wife who does not have to ignore and who, I'm sure, is protective of her husband and her family.

I'm sure that most nights, she is the last person he speaks to before drifting off to sleep. I can only imagine what she has to say when her family is called second-rate.

So go ahead, haters.  Infuriate Jane Roberts some more.  It's easy for a justice  to ignore detractors. Ignoring his wife? Much more difficult.

    •  It's more than that in a way. (5+ / 0-)

Because this is the logic that's being used in the actual court filings in these cases. In other words, upholding Prop 8 and DOMA necessarily means you have to sign on to these arguments.  Regardless of how one feels about LGBT people, the argument is that kids do best when raised by their opposite-sex biological parents and anything else is not as good.

That's why it's so bizarre they'd reference the Chief Justice by name.
