  •  A LOT of people did, my friend. (12+ / 0-)

My approach is simple: if I don't know, if I'm not sure or if I'm just working off a hunch, I remain cautious. I voice concerns if I have them. I do so as objectively as possible. The Romney tapes were strange, yes. But there wasn't enough to prove "troll" to me. I just kept my mouth shut.

I found The Nephew histrionic and inauthentic from the beginning, but had no proof (unlike the others who were tracking his and the aunt's diaries for inconsistencies). So I avoided his diaries.

It's the old thing about  "remaining quiet and being thought a fool..."

Attacking people (and tossing pastry) based on hunches and assumptions is kind of nuts. I guess, as a dog trainer, I've learned that the best way to get more problem behavior in many cases is to feed it with attention.  So I turn my attention elsewhere. True troll diaries are kind of fun to laugh and joke in. But some diaries just don't read that way. Best allow them space (but no attention) to breathe until someone here has actual expertise to chime in. There were one or two people in those diaries that made reasonable comments. But they got drowned out by The Chorus.

Hopefully, we'll learn from this. We're mostly decent people trying to do what's right. We just need to calm down and not assume we can instantly read a situation correctly. Malcolm Gladwell made it clear in his book Blink that instant "unconscious" judgements only work when people have years and years of knowledge and experience serving as the foundation for decisions that seem hasty.

So if you get hit by a bus tonight, would you be satisfied with how you spent today, your last day on earth? Live like tomorrow is never guaranteed, because it's not. -- Me.

Those people that do those things might ought to be paid more attention to in hindsight. Lawd knows, I spend too much time here already. I cannot fathom trying to use the search function to do that sort of tracking. Kudos to those that can and do.

if a habitat is flooded, the improvement for target fishes increases by an infinite percentage...because a habitat suitability index that is even a tiny fraction of 1 is still infinitely higher than zero, which is the suitability of dry land to fishes.
