    This diary is of course being republished to the DPOF osprey list. One of the fascinating things about those osprey feet is that the parents on the nest know how dangerous their feet are and spend a lot of time curling their feet up when turning eggs, tending to their young, etc. Nobody seems to get hurt, even though they are so vulnerable when little. The father hunts and brings in fish, and the mother spends a lot of time on the nest, calling for him to hurry up and bring that fish! When he arrives, she grabs it and starts feeding little mouthfuls to the babies. We observers have seen some crazy things happen at feeding time. Once, the mom lost her fish off the side of the nest, and dad finally found it and retrieved it. If you doubt birds can think, you should have watched that bit of problem solving.
    Here's Dad, peering over the side of the nest, and spotting the lost fish down below. From there on, he had to figure out how to retrieve it, and he did. No one went hungry.
