I prefer the 'new covenant' idea - forget about all that OT fire and brimstone stuff.

    •  Not this again! (7+ / 0-)

The NT teaches an eternity in the lake of fire, and it's for not believing who the messiah is.

The OT has only only one such fire and brimstone incident, and it was for a city that "had pride, surfeit of food, and prosperous ease, yet did not help the poor and needy."

Which is the better lesson, you get thrown in the fire for not believing that someone is messiah, or you get thrown in the fire for acting like Republicans?

I'm in no way an expert.

How about if you just stick to the gospels?  The stuff J.C. says?

I just don't see him as a hater.  I could be wrong...

But please scratch out Mark 16:16, John 3:18, and John 8:24.

The rest is for the most part good Jewish teaching and consistent with the OT. I will not accept teachings that imply that I will be cast into hell for not believing stuff with no evidence.

I will object each time someone claiming to be liberal or progressive tries to argue that the NT improves on the OT.
