I had the same issue (basically) with officer McBride & others at the Alameda Co courthouse while peacefully sitting in, but it wasn't about a mask, it was about me lives-streaming.  I was told I was not allowed to have my camera, I said I'd like to check with my lawyer (who was standing right behind the pigs as a legal observer).
Is it a law that people can't live-stream at certain protest actions?
Is it a law in NYC that there can't be more than 2 people in masks in a protest crowd?
I do think that these are real laws on the books in some places and I do think that these laws are a clear violation of 1st amendment rights--i.e. unjust laws used to repress the voice/expression of the people.
I was just talking to JP (author of this diary) about why more people don't make a big deal (as in lawsuit) about these 1st amendment violations that currently have legal backing.  I think we are all too busy dealing with protesting "the big issues" to deal with these "little laws" about cameras & masks & other 1st amendment violations...and this is all according to their plan.
