    What might happen is that what's left of the moderates will bolt and decide that instead of being a small separate party, they will join the Democratic Party and we'll end up with a lot of Blue Dogs.

      Blue Dogs rile us all greatly, making demands and using their leverage in ways other Democrats cannot. (I'm thinking particularly of ex-Sen. Ben Nelson and his infamous ACA Cornhusker Kickback that was so blatant, Democrats had to abandon it and even Scalia denounced it - it was that bad.) BUT ...

      Blue Dogs can give us Congressional majorities, thereby controlling the bills that get a decent hearing and come to the floor, committee assignments, a heckuva lot of perks important to The Already Titled, ways to dispose of almost all the abuses of the filibuster and other procedural tricks, etc.

      Blue Dogs may also be vulnerable to primaries by more liberal Democrats. The constituencies in some apparently Red States may be less red than previously thought, perhaps significantly less red if the increasing drumbeat of analysis and polls is correct.

      Coupled with a little fracture here and there in the GOP, and ...

      Happy days are just ahead.
      The future needn't be so Red.
      The skies are Blue and voters, too.
      Happy days are just ahead.
