    It is tragic that Democrat must be qualified that way.

    But remember that the Democratic Party began under the leadership of slaveocracy and endured in the embrace of Jim Crow. The pro-worker faction has NEVER been the majority of the Democratic Party coalition.

      parties during at least two separate junctures in our history.

      Neither party has the same ideology or goals today as they did in 1860.

        The realignment was quite real, but that doesn't take anything away from the fact that the pro-worker faction in the party was still a junior partner in the coalition. See: NAFTA, KORUS, etc.

        •  Agreed on being a junior partner. Even FDR went a (0+ / 0-)

          after unions.  As, interestingly, was rebuffed by the Supreme Court. That wouldn't happen with today's court!
