    all of the coast guard regulations binding on tanker and barge shipment on both domestic and international freighters operating on both US and Canadian waters of the Great Lakes.   At one time I had heard there was a requirement for double bottom construction for tankers in this context, but I've never verified that.  

    I'm pretty sure there are already substantial shipments of certain petroleum products on the Great Lakes, such as liquid asphalt and heavy residual oil......not sure how much crude oil is presently in shipment on the Great Lakes.
