... and there are plenty here who defend Hamas' actions.

went away, most of them. And people like me, who used to defend Israel, have figured out that they are too right wing a government to be worthy of sticking up for. Thus the I/P wars are no more (or at least they are no longer shooting wars).

... and there are a number of progressive Jewish voices that have been banned or left the site for all of the vitriol.

principles and not of any justification for banning to which you object.  I'm seeing a pattern here of looking at issues through a distorted prism of misplaced victimhood.

You might also want to look up the No True Scotsman fallacy ... and apply the concept to your belief in progressive purity.

... they happened.  Do I understand the why's and how's they occurred, yes.  The bright, young people that left of their own accord is a sad testament to what happened here.

But we digress, are you offering a rationalization for the actions outlined in the diary?

somehow I'd missed that phrase (and the logic behind it).

Oddly, in this context, the group which it is used for the most in my experience (by orders of magnitude) is Muslims. "No true Muslim would kill innocent civilians." "No true Muslim would blow up a [Shiite] mosque containing Qurans." "Those terrorists, they're not real Muslims." Etc.  The 'un-American' label used to be more common, in the 1950s-60s, but seems less-common now.

And what was the ideology of those banished?

    •  I guess I missed that, (7+ / 0-)

Occasionally I see diaries that condemn Israel's despicable treatment of Palestinians, but singing Hamas' praises?
      Really?
People do get off on tangents.

If I ran this circus, things would be DIFFERENT!
