I worked for Bank of America for almost 5 years. I took a significant portion of my retirement in Bank stock (it was the 1980s) and I bought most of it at around $40/share. When they eliminated my job in the California depression of 1987, they bought back all my bank stock at what it was selling for then, around $10. No, I couldn't keep it as bank stock.

I took the check and opened an account at Wells Fargo with it.
