In 1969 the SCOTUS found the Marihuana Tax Act of 1937 unconstitutional in the Leary v United States decision so the Nixon Administration needed to add marijuana to the newly passed Controlled Substances Act of 1970. Nixon didn't care about the actual danger marijuana might pose to public health, he only cared about the fact that his political enemies likely used marijuana in one form or another.

Marijuana was added to the most restrictive Schedule I of the CSA by Congress temporarily pending the scientific results of the studies they commissioned. Nixon ignored the commissions recommendations to remove marijuana from Schedule I because he wanted to give law enforcement the tools to usurp the Fourth and Fifth Amendment rights of the Anti-War protesters that he saw as political foes.

And marijuana is not even a drug!!! It's a slang term first coined by Mexican migrant workers to describe the wild tobacco plants they dried and smoked because they could not afford commercial tobacco products during the Great Depression. The drugs almost exclusively found in the resins produced in the resin glands in the female flowers of the cannabis genus of plants are called cannabinoids like Dronabinol (THC) or Cannabidiol (CBD). Cannabinoids are drugs but marijuana is not.

Marijuana was attached to the cannabis genus of plants to villianize these valuable commodity and medicinal plants to prevent HEMP from competing with other natural fiber and new synthetic fiber sources. It is the more than 70 years of "Reefer Madness" propaganda that are causing most of our most serious economic and societal problems today. Everything from the erosion of our human rights and militarization of our local police to the economic stagnation of our manufacturing base has been caused by this ridiculous prohibition against the entire genus of cannabis plants.

Really don't mind if you sit this one out. My words but a whisper -- your deafness a SHOUT. I may make you feel but I can't make you think..Jethro Tull
