    it was less a matter of left or right in whether the parties backed the memorandum, but rather if they were establishment parties.  Of course the "new left" Syriza party was the core of the opposition, but they were joined by the breakaway rightist "Independent Greeks", and each in their own self-contained ways, KKE (Communist) and Golden Dawn (neo-Nazi) also were part of the "anti" camp.  Meanwhile the bailout/austerity program was engineered by the dominant PASOK ("social democratic") and New Democracy (conservative) parties.
