    He LOOKS like Niven, kinda.

    I knew that, not sure why I fogged up his name.

    Still, same thing applies, they put Tarkin in the movie to get a big name like Cushing on the movie posters.

    It's funny, looking back at the first movie, what names were prominently marketed.

    Can you imagine a sci-fi/action movie these days marketed with a bunch of old white guys names at the top of the banner instead of hairless young men and young women?

    •  There's no surviving culture in fantasy/scifi (4+ / 0-)

      cinema - it's been completely destroyed by money.  No sense of continuity with the past, no appeal to any kind of mythic sensibilities.  The most they can muster is a bit part for stars from past blockbusters - Sigourney Weaver or something.  Most of the crap that gets put out is nothing but formulaic action or horror with some cheap space-y sets.  At most they create an atmosphere, like in Prometheus.  Nothing more.

      Without a strong safety net and living wage, all labor is forced labor.
