    I am so sorry about what happened to you.

    I wrote a novel about rape once.  During the research I did I discovered to my horror that only ONE PERCENT of the perpetrators in stranger-to-stranger rapes are convicted.

    One percent.

    You were right not to report it because you would not have received the justice to which you are entitled.

    I don't know what the answer is.  If women were respected as actual human beings endowed with full dignity and rights, as opposed to being viewed as appendages to men (see all the current novels titled "The _'s Wife, The ___'s Daughter"), men would not be so quick to violate us.

    As Germaine Greer so truly remarked in one of her books, "Most women have no idea how much men hate them."

    But as long as patriarchy prevails, that's how long women will be second-class citizens.
