I cannot explain it all - but his cat is going - slowly but surely - the last of a triumverate of cats he loved for a long time.  He and I are also older.

Any advice to help him and help me help him?  Any advice for an older person in terms of rescuing an older cat instead of a younger cat?  It is all so complicated.

do the best you can to convince your friend that while making the euthanasia decision is a horrible one, the suffering will be at an end. Hubby and I selfishly waited too long for the first kitty that died - a big orange tabby named Sunkist. Your friend will not want to see the decline.

If the kitty's hanging in there, just tell your friend to keep a watchful eye.

all living things.  He did handle the two prior deaths in a good way - timing was right and he was totally oriented toward the comfort of the two older cats.  It is just this will be the third  of a group of longterm pets (it is not an imminent issue).
