  •  NG channel is owned by Murdoch (11+ / 0-)

... and the rest of the formerly intelligent channels no longer program according to their names. They've kept the names, but the programming is all dreck, even when it's not right-wing swill.

    •  What about the Smithsonian Channel? (6+ / 0-)

I watched about 15 minutes of a 911 program on the Smithsonian Channel. They had the nerve to use Ted Olson as a credible source. He claimed his wife called him before the crash and said terrorists with box cutters had taken over the plane. At first  he said she called from a phone on the plane, but he had to change his story after he learned there were no phones on that type of plane. He corrected himself and said she'd made the call from her own personal cell phone.  We all know cell phones didn't have that capability in 2001, but he kept on saying it anyway. Why are they doing this? They  are  'programming' the viewers.

      •  Indeed they are (5+ / 0-)

Everywhere you look on TV now there is cheerleading for war and ignorance of science. Great series such as Sagan's "Cosmos," Attenborough's "Life on Earth" and Redfern's "Making of a Continent," and their topics, just don't seem to matter to an industry focused soley on pushing the MIC/fossil fuel corps' agenda and stupid-ifying the already vapid nation.

I can't find conclusive statements about how Barbara Olson called her husband, but it's a matter of public record that she did:

At some point between 9:16 and 9:26, Barbara Olson called her husband, Ted Olson, the solicitor general of the United States. She reported that the flight had been hijacked, and the hijackers had knives and box cutters. She further indicated that the hijackers were not aware of her phone call, and that they had put all the passengers in the back of the plane. About a minute into the conversation, the call was cut off. Solicitor General Olson tried unsuccessfully to reach Attorney General John Ashcroft.

Shortly after the first call, Barbara Olson reached her husband again. She reported that the pilot had announced that the flight had been hijacked, and she asked her husband what she should tell the captain to do. Ted Olson asked for her location and she replied that the aircraft was then flying over houses. Another passenger told her they were traveling northeast. The Solicitor General then informed his wife of the two previous hijackings and crashes. She did not display signs of panic and did not indicate any awareness of an impending crash. At that point, the second call was cut off.

    •  98% of cable programming is garbage (0+ / 0-)

As I surf through the channels, one show is stupider than the next.
It's an insult to viewer's intelligence.
I keep cable to watch 3 or 4 shows, although I would probably be better off canceling it altogether.

It's mostly infomercials, reality show nonsense, 30 year old movies, many of which weren't good the first time around and sports.
There really ain't that much there.
