and why women earn less.  Thankfully my husband earned a good living and we did not need my outside income to survive.  I am thankful nothing happened to him because the kids and I would have been SOL.  It got to the point that between the job changes and out of work time, I would never be hired for anything that paid enough to cover child care, car, clothes, taxes that would make it worth me working outside the home.  Instead, I turned to volunteerism to use my brain and have some adult conversation.  But we were in a fortunate and now all to rare position compared to most people.

and you do not live well as an enlisted wife. Then you also have to put up with medical. etc judging you by his rank, not by who you are. l didn't volunteer because we've never had more than one car and I wasn't about to get up at 5:30 to drive him to work so he could be in at 6:30. They tried to persuade me I should volunteer at the daycare center--I don't have kids and didn't want them; why should be someone's unpaid babysitter? Or join a church (I'm a Wiccan) and volunteer there.  Family sevices loves volunteers--but NO WAY was I gonna volunteer where they seemed to want to peg me.  ANy place I might have chosen (Planned Parenthood, a rape crisis or domestic abuse center) was 30 minutes away bu car.

So I stayed home. I had zilch in common with the younger E 1ives, and found friends thought the SCA which is NOT soemthing FS suggested.

The last time we mixed religion and politics people got burned at the stake.
