representation of something that is otherwise invisible. Humans are a very visually oriented organism. Some people only "get" what they can see. Of course, since "appearances are deceiving," people restricted to superficial optics are often wrong. And that's probably quite disconcerting and accounts for a preference for constancy. The Cons, I'm increasingly convinced, are people whose sensory perceptions are somehow dull or inadequate to connect them to reality. Lately, I've been thinking it's the sense of touch which is deficient. We don't consider touch a lot, not nearly as much as sight and sound. Perhaps even less than taste and smell. And yet, our integument (skin) is the largest organ in the body. There is a hypothesis that it even has a memory function that is distinct from the brain.
What if a person's integument is dull and does not register temperature change or the presence of moisture in the air? What if any change, on the other hand, is perceived as an insult and a cause of discomfort by the hypersensitive? How ready are we to account for that, for something that can't be counted numerically?

We organize governments to deliver services and prevent abuse.
