  •  I think we have a stronger position in letting the (8+ / 0-)

    sequester go forward... hear me out though before you start yelling at me.

    It's incredibly hard to cut the defense budget. I don't like how the cuts are coming down on the defense side (too much from things like tuition assistance and not enough from contractors) but the money will be cut one way or another. If the sequester sticks, they'll have to start going for bigger ticket items, like contracts. My husband's retirement might be tricky but folks will fight hard if it comes to that.

    I think that we have a greater chance of pulling together enough momentum to get congress to add back the cuts to Social Security and to Medicare. I think it will be easier to do that than to convince folks that this sequester needs to stop. Most folks aren't hurting immediately and they don't see the big problem. But they'll fight like hell to bring back their SS and Medicare. At least, I think they will. They won't fight like hell to add back some planes that the military doesn't think we even need anymore. Only Congress fights for that crap. And the contractors, of course.

    Anyway, I need to think about this some more but that's where my thought process has been headed lately.
