    if someone runs for tribal office on the basis of encouraging future exploration, they'll win. Lot of folks need jobs. They WANT jobs.
    Oil exploration and development of oil resources on the reservation has been discussed in the tribal council since the 1920s. In fact, this is one of the reasons they reorganized under the IRA in 1934---they felt that this would help them tap into these resources.

      onto reservations where there are in fact no such resources. One of my fishing buddies with a very dark sense of humor told me two years ago that he knew there was no oil there.

      I asked him how he could possibly know that.

      He said because if there was any oil there, the Blackfeet would already have been scooted off of it.

      Sadly, there's a lot of truth to that.

      It rubs the loofah on its skin or else it gets the falafel again.
