    something that has always puzzled me. When a young woman goes missing or is raped or killed, if she is a cheerleader it is always included in the headline. You never see "High School French Club Treasurer Missing" as a headline but often "Area Cheerleader Missing". If they have pictures of her in a cheerleading outfit, all the better.
         It's as if they were saying "This is particularly tragic because she was fulfilling her proper role in the patriarchy--supporting men, especially men who play sports".
         It always bothered me. Sometimes I say out loud "Is that really the most important thing about this person?"
