  •  Why would anyone continue to teach (11+ / 0-)

under these conditions? It seems a teacher could indeed be bankrupted by any catastrophe. What's it going to take to rid the state of the vultures who create such hideous policy?

And by the way, thank you eclectablog for this diary because we need to be reminded of and take seriously the immense harm that comes when Republicans have total governing control.

    •  That is the ultimate goal (16+ / 0-)

This is sabotaging public education in any way possible in order to say "see, public education doesn't work".  They want to privatize it.  Same with the Post Office really.  They create laws making it impossible for the Post Office to sustain itself and then say "see, the post office is losing money".

    •  That's not a mistake (4+ / 0-)

Imagine working for a company in which most of the people from the upper management down to the lowest new hire are competent and care about their work.... but....just above the upper management, at the level of the topmost brass, new executives in charge of the company are brought in by he shareholders.  But they are on a stealth mission and they are people actually in the employ of a cartel of your company's competitors  who tricked the shareholders into thinking it was a good idea to bring them in.  And the cartel gave them the task of making your company fail, but try to do it in a way that doesn't make it too obvious that failure was their deliberate intent.

So the rules start being imposed from on high that sabotage you and your fellow employee's ability to get their job done, and also create a very strong incentive for the best and brightest among you to give up and quit rather than ruin their livelihood by continuing in a job that has recently become shitty.

Then you start seeing ads on TV put there by the competing cartel highlighting everything that's going wrong with your company - things that the new directors are themselves causing but won't admit it.  The purpose of these ads is to continue tricking the shareholders and the customers.  And it's working.  Customers are leaving to go to your competitors - the same competitors who paid your new board of directors to deliberately sabotage your company.  Now the shareholders are making calls to try to minimize the damage by completely dismantling your company altogether rather than try to fix it.

And the whole time you know that your company was doing okay until the new executives came in to deliberately ruin it.

That's what it's like being a public sector worker today.  You are working for a board of directors who are deliberately trying to destroy your company from within because their true allegiance is to your competitors.

      •  Nice analogy. Well written too. (0+ / 0-)

I will use your idea. Thanks.

Sounds particularly apt for the Post Office and also many state institutions too.
