    and my parents still live in the Detroit area.

    I live 'out west' now. Your posts are one of the few ways I'm able to keep up with all of the hydra-headed evils going on in Michigan.

    I'm in higher ed and junior faculty at a public institution out this way. While I have a lot of sympathy for my fellow K-12 educators, please don't forget about us in higher ed. The assault on us has been just as relentless, maybe more so. I'm in my 3rd year of dealing with furloughs to the tune of $25K in lost salary alone. Yet, faculty are not allowed to have union representation here.
