"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

    Or

The right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed, a well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state.

These clauses are not mutually exclusive no matter which way you put it. As written, then or now, one depends on the other.

Therefore, if you happen to own a gun, don't look now, but you've been drafted. And you are not only to be, "...regulated...," but, "...well regulated..."

    •  We already have a 'well regulated militia' (5+ / 0-)

      It's called the National Guard.

        •  The semantics can be vague. (0+ / 0-)

The point is that in those days, private ownership of guns was  because the people were to become a militia in times of threat. That regulation was to be the price paid for private gun ownership. It was to be the reason why people could own guns.
In this day and age, that reasoning no longer applies due to a standing military, federal and state, but the words stand in the 2nd amendment. All the words. This means that the reason people can own guns is directly predicated on the possibility that they may needed to defend the state. And they can be regulated.

Yesterday I got something from an outfit in Boise, ID, called Senior Supplemental Referral Service, offering "classes" on how to get a handgun permit in Chicago, and a concealed carry permit in Illinois.

            What could possibly go wrong?

              That's good.
Not as good as, "God Has Your Back," but that's good.

...it looks like it's a scam. They have no BBB acreditation, and what they do seems to be vague.

And I'm not going anywhere near Boise. My old man lives in Meridian, and he's the last person I want to be near, especially if I'm armed!
