But those are hard on bare feet! So I am thinking about repurposing some of the field stones from the old pond and doing a path up towards the back of the garden.

I also have to redo the pond in the sense I need to make it easier when I unclog a filter in the middle of the winter! Wah.

I also have to clean the filters as the weather is now warming up.  Not easy to do since I can't kneel down yet. :-(

      BUT ...

You're planning to undertake a major hardscape gardening challenge in just a scant few weeks?

      Must i always bonk you?

Don't worry, I won't lay down the stone yet.... But I can collect it from the spot where the old pond is, right?? Lol and I do have a wheelbarrow, so I won't be carrying them from one end of the yard to the other end.  :-)

... i'm guilty myself of ignoring my bodies aches and pains.  Once upon a time, i weeded to the point of temporary paralysis in my fingers.  Now, it seems i'm constantly flirting with wrist pain.  And yet i still dig.  Still clear.  Still prune.  Still plant.  But i'm trying to be more careful as i get older so these temporary setbacks don't become permanent.

Won't you at least reassure me that you'll listen to your body as you work on your projects?  You can fight with it, as i do ... but please at least listen to what your body is telling you.  Yes?

          Remember ... i nag because i love. :)

I am so pissed.  I need to think about how I'm gonna approach this!!

So I opted NOT to use the lawn service this year.  Last year, I pretty much had to figure I simply didn't have time PLUS I needed to work on my goals for the back garden and new pond.  But also the thing that bugged me out last year was they applied some sort of weed killer that killed some of my centaurea montana and also nearly killed the 50+ year old well established white phlox (what came up after the surface stuff was killed was stunted and weird looking... and of course no flowers).  Then also they use not just regular leaf blowers but really high powered leaf blowers that decimate anything in its way.

So I came home today to find them working in the yard!!  The workers aren't the ones I have to deal with, but the company owner (who is local and actually is a nice guy), so I didn't speak with them about this (plus I didn't recognize this crew).  But I just went out to look at what I could expect as damage.  Well, the crocus are all blown out and ruined.  They would have looked stunning this weekend.

The mulch I laid down in the front... all gone.  I do not know why they rake out mulch!!!  That was two bags of mulch under the yews and on top of where the solomon's seal is.  It looks like I may have lost the solomon's seal since they decided to rake deep in the area where they are planted!!!  So I won't know until later this spring.

            agh.

I have to call up this guy (I will wait until tomorrow because I'm too pissed right now)and tell him I'll pay for the one day's service but I won't be using his service again this year... and will explain why.

I'm simply NOT a conventional gardener!!  My beds are not square and neat.... I have beds that are surrounded by herbs, NOT HARDSCAPING.  ugh...

And worst, what I wanted them to chop away at (like overgrown bushes) they left intact.  Of course if they used the blowers on them they probably could have given them a quick trim!!  =^O

            :(

            sorry for the vent.  :(

oh.. and on the overworking, a good friend of mine is nagging me about the same thing!!  LOL  He used to be my boss like 10 years ago (and then retired) and he knows how I was in the office, so simply applies that kind of working method and knows how I must be in the yard!!  LOL

... that you were cancelling service for this year?  If so, i definitely wouldn't pay them for the day.  If this world were just, they'd actually bring you replacement mulch/plants and put things in order before you go your separate ways.

            •  Wow. (3+ / 0-)

How frustrating. Give that guy an earful and insist he replace anything damaged as well as the mulch they raked out. If his crew can't recognize mulch and seasonal flowers they shouldn't be allowed around garden tools. They should have realized immediately that they were at a house that wasn't like the others and adjusted accordingly.

Well I called and left a message.  I did relay that I didn't want the service this year and would like to explain why.

I'll let you guys know what follows....

                :-(
