  •  5 liters of fluid!!! (4+ / 0-)

Whoah! I could handle 2 - 2 1/2 liters nce I got used to it, which took weeks (I was on peritoneal dialysis and that requires that one fill up one's peritoneal cavity with fluid), but five! Holy crap! Yeah, that'll get her fluid in places like her lungs. Please tell her from me that she is heroic - and love and health to both of you. Sending energy for that miracle.

Organ donors save lives! A donor's kidney gave me my life back on 02/18/11; he lives on in me. Please talk with your family about your wish to donate.

Why are war casualty counts "American troops" and "others" but never "human beings"?

Her ability to endure in the face of pain has never ceased to astound me. Evidently, she's always been that way. I know she declined the epidural during the birth of one of her kids; after all, she was just having a baby...

This was one of only a couple times that I've seen her really admit that she needed help because of pain, and I knew it was going to be a tough week. I am immensely grateful that she is doing much better now, at least in that sense.

For the record, the other time was an infected ingrown toenail. So, if anyone--like me--questioned whether ingrown nails are really that bad? Yeah. They are.

She managed to have that much liquid in an abdominal space that's already compressed, because of the 3+ inches of height she's lost due to spinal compression fractures.

Don't get me wrong, there was some pretty serious visible swelling. But the very first time they drained her ascites, a week or two earlier, they'd taken out 2.5 liters, and there sure wasn't twice as much visible swelling. I really have no idea where she was keeping it all.
