  •  Do we hold our President to the same standard? (4+ / 0-)

President Obama is a Dem who has repeatedly lashed out against the very wealthy.

Should we hold him to the same standard that you hold Pope Fransico?

Could Cardinal Bergoglio have been more center-left, more explicit in his embrace of liberation theology?  Of course.  But that Cardinal would never have been elected Pope.

That Catholic Church just can't win in DailyKos.

For all its faults, the Catholic Church is not only the largest organized religion by market share, but, on a net basis, contributes more positive energy to this world than any other mainstream religion.

earth, the sole and authoritative interpreter of the Divine Will like the Magisterium of the Catholic Church? Should we not hold the men who claim to be the sole arbiters of morality for the entire human race to a higher standard of personal morality than we do politicians?

The Church contributes "positive energy"? Than why are the number of practicing Catholics falling on every continent but Africa??

    •  Personally, I expect Christ's self-proclaimed ... (0+ / 0-)

... representatives on earth to actually live by his personally-stated message, which wasn't at all ambiguous:

I.e.  The best way to follow him is to sell everything you own and give the money to the poor.

      Etc.

I see nothing in the Bible where Jesus rationalizes to his disciples the wearing of golden jewelry and red Prada shoes, or the living in opulent palaces.  Or tells his apostles to start their own bank.  (As I recall, he threw moneychangers out of church.)
