Go to the library with your kids.

My mother took us kids to the library every Saturday.

One day, when I was about 11 or 12 years old, I found a science fiction book I wanted to read, but the librarian at the check-out desk told me, "This is from the adult section. You have a children's card. You'll need to get permission from your mother or father to check out this book."

So I found my mother in the library and said, "I need your permission to get this book." My mother marched up to the desk and said, "My son has my permission to check out any book in this library!" The librarian said, "But he has a children's card." My mother said, "Can you give him an adult card?" That day I got the library card with no limits.

    I had a good mother.
