I guess I will call you markzam's wife for now :-) A children's History Book Club sounds like a fun as well as educational use of time. I would be interested in hearing about your book list, etc. for this year.

I hope you will set up an account as well.

Please let me know if I can help with anything at the site.

But I would be happy to provide you with a list of the books if that's no problem to post it here. The Montessori method is a hands on approach to learning that's why History book club fits right in. It is more fun for the children and easier to comprehend history than through boring text books. We learn through discussions and fun related projects. The children are currently working on models of the achterhuis/secret annex.
        Markzam's wife, Alexandra;-)

If there is time left, we will go back to the times of slavery per one student's request.
I am always looking for good historical reads. So, I am very much open to suggestions. The kids are 10/11 years old.
All the work I do with the students is on a volunteer basis. I am not a teacher by profession. I have an art/design background but the work with the students really enriches me and I learn along with them and from them.

What a great reading list for anyone. Thank you for following up. I know nomandates will appreciate it for sure.

Hey, here's a though, sign up and get a Daily Kos account. You already have two people thinking you are pretty cool. Oops, three. I assume markzam thinks you're pretty cool too.

I admire what you're doing, Alexandra. Volunteer work like this is so important to kids because they can sense when someone truly cares about them. I like the way you put this:

the work with the students really enriches me and I learn along with them and from them
You're modeling life-long learning for them through this book club.

I wish I had some suggestions for additions to your reading list, but you've covered the history books I read as a kid, so I can't think of anything to add offhand.
