Just because ethnic Jews were persecuted, hell just because Christians were persecuted in Rome, you still don't get to pretend your Sunday morning social club is something other than a choice of activities, just like someone chooses to, say, like Pepsi over Coke or someone chooses to spend their time reading trashy romance novels.

Religion is just a time-waster like any other hobby, you don't get special protections that are reserved for attributes people are born with such as race, gender, sexual orientation.

And it is friggin obscene that the religious would even TRY to co-opt such status for themselves.

For fucking shame.  And generally its one religion murdering another, as far as religious persecution goes.

Stop trying to act like your religion is some kind of special status, its not.  We don't protect Justin bieber fans from 'bigotry' either you know.

From George Washington's letter to the Jews of Newport, RI, one of his first visits upon becoming President.

The Citizens of the United States of America have a right to applaud themselves for giving to Mankind examples of an enlarged and liberal policy: a policy worthy of imitation. All possess alike liberty of conscience and immunities of citizenship. It is now no more that toleration is spoken of, as if it was by the indulgence of one class of people that another enjoyed the exercise of their inherent natural rights. For happily the Government of the United States, which gives to bigotry no sanction, to persecution no assistance, requires only that they who live under its protection, should demean themselves as good citizens.

Where did Washington say that church membership isn't a choice? Of course he said the opposite there.

Where did he say that religious persecution entitles the victim to immunity for responsibility for their acts that deserve retribution? Nowhere of course.

You are just demonstrating the insanity of religious people who feel entitled to archly cite non sequiturs (at best) to evade the consequences of your private clubs acting badly.

      •  Jeez. (0+ / 0-)

So, a) he isn't saying what you chose to do isn't a choice, quite the opposite, and b) George Washington was a 18th Century plantation owner and an army general.

Which I guess is a huge step up from taking your orders from 10th Century BC shepherds and whackos, but still, come on.
