  •  Religion is being pushed on him...and you correct? (0+ / 0-)
telling religious people he thinks they believe in a fantasy and they need to stop pushing it on the rest of us
I assume you mean that Maher is speaking out on behalf of all the downtrodden folks who feel religion is being pushed on them. I assume this must cause pain of no end. So much so, that one must wail about it from the prison of a Burbank air conditioned studio. What suffering he must feel having to keep quiet while other people are praying. Why when folks pray, she should be free to tell dirty jokes with a megaphone! Evil oppressive religious nuts!

Here is my thing: Bill Maher is an atheist. I could care less. Because what Bill Maher believes is up to him and him only. I can't control what he chooses to believe. However, Maher seems to think he shouldn't even have to be exposed, or even advertised to, from people who think differently from himself (a common affliction of atheists in my view.)

If Maher likes McDonalds over Burger King, he can say so. Fine. But his position is "Burger King shouldn't be pushing their burgers on me!"

I have no problem with people being atheists. Just go on your merry way. I have no problem with atheists actually saying "You guys should stop beliving in this crap!" Go right ahead. But please, don't give me the "im a victim" crap because the vast majority of atheists are very white, very well educated, and relatively wealthy.

Again, nobody said Maher is a victim - except you. Why insist on that straw man, even after I've rejected it?

Maher's job is to point out problems in our society and mock them. That's what comedians do who are more than just for laughs. They might or might not suffer from the problems themselves. They do it because that's their contribution, just as a dentist doesn't have to have cavities themself to show you x-rays of yours.

Religion is indeed being pushed down everyone's throat. I have to pay to support unwanted children across NY and across the US, because churches insist god wants them. I have to pay the taxes for many thousands of people working for many thousands of churches across the country, because their lobbyists get the 1st Amendment enforced backwards. My neighbors can't get married, or if they can they still pay penalties financial and otherwise Federally, because of these churches.

We are all victims of religion. It's up to you if you believe it's necessary for you. But the churches you're defending from Maher are the ones causing us to  suffer. You've got the whole thing backwards.

      •  Yes, you have to pay taxes for shit you dont like. (0+ / 0-)

Join the club. I have to pay taxes to support white people's ridiculous criminal justice system. Think I like it? I also have to pay for Mayor Bloombergs stupid ass bike paths and other crap rich white environmentalists dream up that make them think they're making a better world but really just making life hard for normal people. I don't like it..but when you live in a society you pay for shit you don't like.

Finally, Maher, nor anyone who agrees with him, don't have a goddamn clue about what suffering is. Just because you happen to see a cross on your way to the organic food & folk music festival doesn't mean you're being oppressed.
